In traditional blepharoplasty, Dr Tham typically employs the cutting method, which means surgical incisions are made using a knife or laser. This technique cuts across the entire span of the eyelids and produces more prominent and permanent eyelids. Any excess fat or unwanted tissue can simultaneously be removed via this method too.
With scarless double eyelid surgery, incisions are replaced with sutures, which are tiny holes with stitches, at pre-determined areas around the eyelids. Dr Tham will assess where best to do the sutures based on your eyelid examination pre-surgery.
Scarless eyelid surgery results in zero scarring and a faster recovery, whereas a traditional incisional surgery spans across the eyelids and leaves a visible scar at the eyelid creases at first. It also requires a longer recovery time.
